Before you Begin an Exercise Program


Beginning an exercise program is an important part of losing weight, staying healthy and fit while reducing your risk of developing many diseases. Before beginning any exercise program; however, it is important to take certain steps in order to ensure you get off to the right start.

One of the most important steps you should take before beginning any exercise program is to check with your doctor. This is especially true if you have previously been diagnosed with any heart related problems or high blood pressure. In addition, you should check in with your doctor before beginning an exercise regiment if you have been sedentary and not been physically active for the last year or more as well as if you are 65 years old or older and are not currently physically active. Other persons who should get a check up from their doctor before beginning an exercise program include women who are pregnant, individuals who have diabetes and anyone who experiences dizziness, fainting spells or chest pain. Finally, persons who are just recovering from any kind of illness or injury should always check in with their doctor to make sure they are recuperated enough to begin exercising.

Remember that while exercise is an important part of being healthy, starting an exercise program without checking with your physician first could prove to be more harmful than beneficial.

After you have received the all clear from your physician, you will need to start thinking about outfitting your wardrobe with clothing that will allow you to exercise properly. You needn’t think that you need a lot of fancy exercise clothing; however, it is important to having clothing to work out in that is comfortable, such as shorts, tee shirts, sweat pants, etc. If you are working out outdoors, remember that light colored clothing will keep you cooler. Try to avoid weighing yourself down with heavy fabrics. Opt for light fabric.

Shoes are an important part of working out properly and as such you may need to invest in a good quality pair of shoes. The type of shoe you need will depend on your choice of exercise. Options range from walking shoes to cross-training shoes. Remember to select a shoe that provides good support and is, most importantly, comfortable.

Individuals who like to work out at night should make sure they select clothing that is highly reflective to avoid potential accidents and injury.
