Exercising while Traveling
Far too often many well intentioned individuals will start an exercise program, start really enjoying the benefits of it, see themselves getting into shape and then hit a roadblock when they must travel out of town for business or decide to take a vacation. While more and more hotels are providing exercise rooms out of consideration of their traveling guests, these rooms are often small, tend to be overcrowded and may not contain the equipment you need to sustain your chosen exercise regimen. So, how do you avoid running out of steam when you travel?
The good news is that you can easily make sure you don’t get off track with your exercise routine just because you are traveling. First, consider the type of exercise routine that you have chosen. If it something such as pilates with mat exercises, it may be as simple as folding up your mat and bringing it with you. If not, realize this is the perfect opportunity to substitute a little variety into your exercise routine without giving up the fun of traveling.
If you’re going to be staying in an area that is known for its outdoor appeal, consider taking a walk or jog on the beach. What about taking a hike along a rugged outdoor trail? Beach locations are also good for games of volleyball on the sand as well as a wide array of water activities that are not only fun but good for exercise too, such as diving, skiing, swimming, snorkeling and surfing. Consider renting a bike and taking a long leisurely ride. Golf fans will appreciate the opportunity to play on a new course while getting their exercise at the same time. Love to play tennis but you don’t frequently have access to the courts at home? Here’s your chance to whip that little yellow ball all over the court as many resorts boast fine tennis courts for their guests.
If none of those ideas sound appealing, you can always pack some resistance bands in your suitcase and unwind at the end of the day or even start your day with a few reps. This will help to keep your muscles in shape so that you don’t feel quite so much as if you have completely fallen off the horse when you return back home to your regular exercise routine. Toss in a couple of small mini-dumbbells and you’ll double the impact.
