Hiring a Fitness Trainer

Many people would like to begin an exercise program to lose weight, improve their health and get into shape, but unfortunately, do not have a clue where to begin. They may feel as though they are unsure which type of exercise would best suit their needs and goals or may feel they are unable to remain motivated on their own. In any of these situations a personal trainer may be just what you need to get you headed down the right path toward exercise success. While personal trainers are often used by stars and celebrities to sculpt their bodies for films and public appearances, there is no rule that personal trainers must be used by only the rich and famous.

Be aware; however, that you will need to spend some hard earned cash in order to hire an experienced personal trainer who can help you design a program that will work for you and meet your needs. Ideally, your personal trainer should be educated in physical fitness and should preferably be certified to act as a personal trainer.

Remember that you are not paying a personal trainer to act as your best friend. A personal trainer’s job is to help you establish and reach your goals by providing education related to basic nutrition, strength training and cardiovascular exercise. Your personal trainer will also provide you with the accountability you need to stick with the program you set up and help you to gauge your progress and success. This means that at times your personal trainer may need to demonstrate a little ‘tough love.’ If he or she isn’t doing that, they are not doing what you are paying them for.

Generally, you can expect each session with your personal trainer to last about an hour. The number of times you meet with your personal trainer each week is up to you, the amount of time and money you can spare and the schedule of your personal trainer. During the first meeting you can expect your personal trainer to spend some time assessing your current fitness level. This will mean taking body measurements and finding out information about your previous exercise history as well as the goals you hope to reach.

When hiring a personal trainer look for someone who has been certified in physical fitness as well as CPR and first aid; just in case a problem arises. Your ideal physical trainer will have several years of experience and possibly even specialize in a certain area of physical fitness.
